Braces in Singapore
Braces use brackets and wires to gradually move teeth into a better position. They can improve crowding, spacing, bite problems and long-term cleanability.
What Is Braces?
Braces are an orthodontic treatment used to straighten teeth, correct bite problems and improve overall teeth alignment. They work by applying gentle, continuous pressure to gradually move the teeth into a better position over time.
Braces may be recommended for crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, crooked teeth, overbite, underbite or other bite alignment issues. Besides improving the appearance of your smile, braces can also make it easier to clean your teeth and support better long-term oral health.
At Best Smile Dental, our dentist will assess your teeth and bite condition carefully, then explain whether braces are suitable for you before starting treatment.

Types of Braces in Singapore
Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces use metal brackets and wires to gradually move the teeth into better alignment. They are one of the most common and affordable braces options.
Ceramic Braces
Traditional metal braces use metal brackets and wires to gradually move the teeth into better alignment. They are one of the most common and affordable braces options.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces use a special bracket system that holds the wire without traditional elastic bands. They may feel more comfortable for some patients and can make cleaning slightly easier.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are placed behind the teeth, so they are less visible from the front. They are a discreet option, but may cost more and require a longer adjustment period.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are removable transparent trays that help move teeth gradually. They are less noticeable and can be removed when eating, brushing and flossing.

Cost of Braces in Singapore
The cost of braces in Singapore usually ranges from S$3,500 to S$9,000, depending on the type of braces, severity of teeth misalignment, bite condition and treatment duration. Lingual braces may cost more because they are customised and placed behind the teeth. At Best Smile Dental, we provide affordable braces treatment with transparent fees.
CHAS and MediSave are generally not used for routine braces treatment, as orthodontic treatment is not listed under the usual CHAS dental subsidy items and MediSave usually applies to selected surgical procedures.
Aftercare and Follow Up for Braces
After braces are fitted or adjusted, mild soreness or pressure is normal for a few days. Avoid hard, sticky or chewy food that may damage the brackets or wires.
Brush carefully around the brackets after meals and use floss or interdental brushes as advised. Regular braces adjustment visits are important so the dentist can monitor movement and keep the treatment on track.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do braces hurt?
Fitting braces does not hurt, but your teeth may feel sore or tight for a few days after they are placed or adjusted, because they are moving. Softer food and your usual pain relief help during that period.
How do I know if I need braces?
Our dentist will examine your teeth, bite and jaw alignment, and may recommend X rays, photos or dental scans for treatment planning. Braces may be suitable if you have crowded teeth, gaps between teeth, crooked teeth, bite problems or difficulty cleaning certain areas due to tooth position.
Should I choose braces or Invisalign?
Both straighten teeth well; the right choice depends on your case and your habits. Fixed braces handle complex crowding, rotations and bite problems very predictably and do not rely on you remembering to wear them. Invisalign is removable and discreet, which suits working professionals, but it only works if worn 20 to 22 hours a day. Our dentist will assess your teeth and bite and recommend the option that fits your goals and lifestyle.
How long do braces take to straighten teeth?
Most cases take roughly 18 months to 2 to 3 years, depending on how much the teeth need to move and your bite. Simple cases finish sooner. We give you an estimated timeline after assessing your teeth.
What age is best for braces?
There is no single right age. Many start in their teens once most adult teeth are through, but adults can have braces too, as long as the gums and bone are healthy. We treat both teenagers and adults.
Do I need to wear a retainer after braces?
Yes. Teeth naturally tend to drift back, so wearing a retainer as directed is what keeps your results. We include retainers and follow-up in your treatment plan.
Can I use CHAS or MediSave for braces?
Braces are not CHAS or MediSave claimable. Our clinic team can explain the fees and payment options before treatment.
How long does a braces appointment take?
The first braces consultation usually takes around 30 to 60 minutes. Regular braces adjustment visits usually take around 20 to 45 minutes.
How should I care for my teeth during braces treatment?
Brush carefully around the brackets and wires after meals and use floss or interdental brushes as advised by our dentist. Avoid hard, sticky or chewy food that may damage the braces. Attend regular braces adjustment appointments so our dentist can monitor your progress and keep your treatment on track.
